Uploads send only what changed
A .blend points at its textures. Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini and Reaper upload a scene with its files, and skip the files the vault already has.
- 01
Hash every file on your machine
SHA-256, before anything is sent.
- 02
Ask which ones the vault already has
Checked within your organization only.
- 03
Upload only the missing ones
Files the vault has are linked, not uploaded again.
- 04
Upload the scene last
So a scene never exists pointing at files that did not arrive.
Uploads from the desktop app send the whole file. If a file matches one already in your organization, the app tells you it is a duplicate.
Versions
- Every upload of an asset is a new numbered version, with who uploaded it and an optional message
- Any older version can be made current again, without deleting the newer ones
- A project records the exact version it placed, so a new upload does not change what it builds with
- A version a project depends on cannot be deleted
- Comments on an asset, or on one version of it
Getting an asset into a project
- Copy
- Copies the file into the project. The default.
- Linked
- A symbolic link, so one file on disk serves several projects. Falls back to a copy across drives, and tells you.
- Reference only
- Records that the project uses the asset, without copying it.
- Where it lands
- A folder you choose inside the project. Paths with a leading slash or
..are refused.
Finding things again
Folders
A real tree with drag and drop. Deleting a folder moves its assets to the root.
Collections
Group assets across folders, like everything one level needs.
Search and filters
Search names, descriptions and tags. Filter by type, tag and collection.
Favourites
Your own shortlist. Not shared with the team.
Dependencies
See which scenes use a texture before somebody deletes it.
Storage breakdown
How much is current versions and how much is history.
What it does not do
- No 3D viewer. A model shows a type icon and a Download button.
- No generated thumbnails. You pick one at upload, or Blender captures one from the viewport.
- No video player. Audio does have a Play preview.
- No format conversion. The host app exports the format, like Krita to PNG or Maya to FBX.
- No resumable uploads. A dropped connection restarts that file.
- No approval or review step on a version.
