Houdini
Browse and place vault assets, export the selection, or upload the .hip with its files.
What the panel does
LoreOwl → Open LoreOwl panel, from Houdini's main menu. It has a Vault tab and an Upload tab.
Browse the vault
Search, filter by type and tag, sort, and load more. Your storage use is shown too.
Place selected
Downloads the selected assets. Tick Import after download to bring them into the scene.
Warns about bad files
A file that is not the format its name says, or that makes no geometry, gets a warning instead of a clean import.
Export selection and upload
Exports the selected geometry in the format you pick and uploads it as a model.
Upload the scene
Uploads the .hip with the files it references. Files the vault already has are linked, not sent again.
Caches are left out
Frame-sequence caches are not uploaded, and the panel tells you how many it skipped.
Export formats
- Every licence
- OBJ, PLY, STL and Houdini geometry (
.bgeo.sc). - Core, FX and others
- Also FBX, glTF (.glb and .gltf) and Alembic. FBX is the default.
- Apprentice
- FBX, glTF and Alembic are shown greyed out with the reason, because Apprentice cannot export them. OBJ is the default.
Sign in once, in the app
No pairing code to type and no token to paste.
When you sign in to the LoreOwl desktop app, it writes a short-lived credential to a file in your user profile, and the Houdini panel reads it. Sign out and it is removed.
- No refresh token is stored, so the file only ever holds a short-lived access token
- Written in one step, so a host never reads half a file
- Every host integration uses the same credential, so one sign-in covers all of them
Installing it
From the Integrations page in the LoreOwl app. It finds the app's settings folder for you.
- What it installs
- A Houdini package:
loreowl.jsonand aloreowlfolder in thepackagesfolder of your Houdini preferences, for exampleDocuments\houdini21.0\packages. - Versions
- Houdini 21.0 and later. Each version keeps its own preferences, so each has its own row. Tested on 22.0.
- Then
- Restart Houdini.
- Open the LoreOwl menu and choose “Open LoreOwl panel”.
- Custom locations
- Add a folder by hand, for example a portable install. Folders you add stay after a rescan.
- Uninstalling
- Removes only what the install added.
What it does not do
- No version control or file locks in Houdini. Those stay in the desktop app.
- No frame-sequence caches in a scene upload.
- No FBX, glTF or Alembic export on Apprentice.
- No USD export.
- Windows only, because the desktop app that signs it in is.
